Boxing Shire
The Boxing Shire was sculpted by Donna Chaney and is 1:32 scale, or in plastic model horse terminology, Stablemates or Chips scale. Joanie had originally planned to produce a run of this piece in earthenware after Hadrian was finished, but decided that minis did not feed her family well enough and did not plan to release any more pieces in this scale. A light bay Shire, the first and what was intended to be the last piece, was sold at online auction in 2004. Needless to say more than a few Boxing Shires (and other minis!) managed to find their way out of the pottery anyway! Some Boxing Shires were made previous to 2004 which were finished by students at glazing workshops at which Joanie taught. Click on pictures below for larger views.
Boxing Shires Finished at Workshops

Above center, finished by Liz Bouras at the Jamboree 2002 (?) workshop. Above left, finished by Linda Dean at Sheryl's 2003 workshop. Below, more shires finished at this workshop.
