Nomad
Nomad was sculpted by Kristina Lucas Francis and introduced in earthenware ceramic in 1999. He is Thumb scale, or in other words, 1:32 or Breyer Stablemate scale, and represents a Tarpan stallion. A run of 212 grulla/mouse dun pieces was produced, in addition to a number of bisque pieces. The earliest production pieces were marked with a star on their bellies and in general production pieces had darker heads and necks and more pronounced leg barring than test pieces. Slip Tests
The pieces above were colored entirely with slip instead of paint, with the exception of the black points on the dark bay and the white markings on the dark bay and the piece third from the left. This was Joanie's first attempt at using this method.
Photos above are by Joanie Berkwitz/The Pour Horse, with the exception of those of the custom glazes, which are by E. Heritage-Mench, and of the dark-headed OF variations and the Zorse, which are by J. Arns-Rossi. The sapels photo of the grulla splash is by C. Farrens. Thank you!
